Public Speaking Coach for Founders — Investor-Ready Deck, Amateur Delivery

The Mismatch — Diagnosis Series

Your Deck Is Investor-Ready.
You Are Not.

A diagnosis for founders whose slides look sharp and whose delivery loses conviction the moment the laptop closes.

01 The Diagnosis

Sharp Deck. Blunt Founder.

You used AI to build a world-class pitch deck. The slides are clean. The narrative arc is right. The graphs look like they came out of a top-tier consulting firm. The investor takes one look at the cover slide and the meeting starts in your favour.

Then they ask you to close the laptop and tell them why this, why now, why you.

And you crumble.

Your deck looks sharp. You, how can I put it, are blunt. The sentences come out tangled. The conviction does not transfer. The voice tightens when the slide is not there to hide behind.

If you are lucky, you might raise a bit of capital. You will not raise conviction. The investor will write the cheque because the deck makes the case. The cheque will be smaller than it should be, the terms will be tighter than they should be, and the next round will be harder than it should be, because the conviction in the room was always in the deck and not in you.

This is the mismatch. Investor-ready slides. Amateur and unprepared delivery. The deck closed the first meeting. The founder lost the second.

This page is the diagnosis. What it costs you in valuation, in terms, in the next round. Why it is happening. And what the same meeting sounds like when the founder is at the level of the deck.

The best investment you could ever make is to invest in yourself. As an international speaker and ambassador myself, I can tell you that the importance of speaking with impact is undeniable.

I've known Kevin for a number of years. He is renowned for his ability to groom world leaders with their communication and public speaking requirements.

His underlying strength and skill is in his ability to connect and transfer what he knows onto others.

02 What This Is Costing You

Four Moments Where the Deck Cannot Save You.

The deck is loaded. The room is real. Watch what happens when the slide cannot speak for you.

The Off-Deck Question

You are on slide nine. The investor closes his laptop and says, "Forget the deck for a minute. Tell me why you, not someone else, build this company."

You have ten seconds to answer. You answer in three minutes. You use the words "team" and "vision" and "market" and "timing" and none of the three minutes lands.

The investor reopens his laptop. The meeting continues. The cheque, when it arrives, is for less than you needed.

You will not be told the off-deck question was the moment the round was set. But it was.

The Partner Meeting

You have been invited back. The partner is in the room now. You are presenting to four people, not one.

The deck runs. The partner does not look at the deck. He looks at you.

He asks you the question the associate could not answer. You answer. The answer is a paraphrase of slide twelve.

The partner closes the meeting politely. Outside the room, he tells the associate: solid product, founder is not the founder.

The Media Moment

TechCrunch wants to write you up. The reporter calls. The questions are not from the deck.

You answer in startup jargon. The reporter rewrites your answers into something readable.

The article runs. It is fine. The headline is about your category, not about you. The next time a journalist needs a quote on the category, she calls another founder.

The article cost you nothing in money. It cost you the position.

The Team Town Hall

The company is twenty people now. Then forty. Then a hundred. The town hall is monthly. The town hall is on Zoom or in the kitchen.

You stand up. You speak. The team listens.

The team listens, but they leave the room not knowing what you actually want them to do next quarter. They piece it together later from Slack threads and one-to-ones.

You burn ten percent of every quarter cleaning up what the town hall should have set.

AI built you a deck. AI cannot build you a voice. The voice is the asset that closes the round.

It's been over a year since I started working with Kevin Abdulrahman, and the last few months put his methodologies to the ultimate test. Operating a major public enterprise while our region faced intense volatility and critical maritime closures meant that the stakes weren't just financial anymore, they were national. Let alone leading by communication during uncertainty.

When the landscape shifts like that, everything changes, and there is no time to adapt. You're either ready, or not.

You aren't just handling standard corporate updates, or board meetings. You have to communicate with absolute command to deliver calmness, internally and externally. Every single word you say has massive weight that could go either way.

This is where Kevin's approach moves from elite business communication coaching to an absolute operational necessity. He doesn't give you a script. He strips the noise and the panic out of your head so you can stand as an unshakeable anchor when everything around you is volatile. Not a one off — but a new default that you operate with.

Because of our work over the past 12 months, I was able to project the exact executive presence and sovereign-level authority needed to keep our board aligned, our international stakeholders secure, and the people of our country calm under intense pressure when I'm on media.

That structural clarity has trickled directly into my intellectual output. Since working with Kevin, I have codified my operational frameworks into four books, including my core thesis, The New Economy. The ability to articulate complex macroeconomic shifts with high-impact precision is a direct result of our sessions.

Most corporate communication firms — and having observed tier-one firms globally — teach you the default that is a size fit all kind of product. Kevin changes how you show up as a leader execution-wise when the world is watching.

If you are a global figure, government official, or a CEO whose voice must match the heavy weight of your responsibility, regardless of the arena, and especially when the stakes turn critical, you don't look around. You find the Panadol of your headache (as he taught me). And I won't name my Panadol 🙂

You did not build a company so the deck could outperform the founder.

03 Why This Is Happening to You

You Are a Builder. You Were Never Trained to Speak.

You will be told to tell a story. To open with the problem. To end with the ask. To use a hook. To use the Hero's Journey. To use whatever framework was popular on Twitter last quarter.

You have read all of it. None of it has changed the way the room reads you.

The reason is structural. You are a builder. Your day is spent in the product, in the code, in the spreadsheet, in the hiring decisions. The voice that should carry the conviction of all of that was never built.

You have practised on the deck. The deck is the easy part. The deck does not have to look you in the eye. The deck does not freeze when the partner closes his laptop.

The voice can be built. Quickly, in your case, because the substance is already there. You have built the product. The voice that sells the product can be built in months, not years, when it is built privately by an advisor who has built voices for founders who closed rounds in this market and the last one.

It is not group training. It is not the founder course on YC. It is one person, one founder, the room you are in next week, until the next round closes at the valuation the product deserves.

04 What It Feels Like on the Other Side

What the Same Pitch Sounds Like When the Founder Matches the Deck.

Same deck. Same room. Same investor. Only the founder has changed.

The off-deck question. The investor closes the laptop. You answer in three sentences. The middle one is the sentence he writes down. The round prices up by twenty percent.

The partner meeting. The partner asks the question. You answer it without referencing the deck. He decides in the room. The term sheet arrives within forty-eight hours.

The media moment. The reporter calls and you give her the sentence the piece is built around. The next category piece quotes you first.

The team town hall. Forty people leave the room knowing exactly what the quarter is. The Slack threads quiet down. The execution speeds up.

The deck got you the meeting. The voice gets you the cheque. And the round. And the next round.

You will sleep differently. The company stops bleeding the ten percent of every quarter that the untrained voice was costing it.

05 Who This Page Was Written For

Who This Page Was Written For.

This is for you if any of these are true:

  • You are raising or about to raise and the deck is doing more of the work than you are.
  • You are in front of partners, reporters, or your own team and the conviction does not transfer.
  • You have practised the pitch and the practice has not moved the outcome.
  • The product is real. The voice is the gap.
  • You are willing to do private work for the months it takes to close the gap permanently.

If three or more describe you, the rest of the page is for the round you are about to raise.

Kevin Abdulrahman operates far beyond traditional media training. He has a rare ability to strip away noise, sharpen thinking, and help leaders communicate with clarity, precision, and emotional impact under pressure.

What impressed me most was that the sessions were never about sounding polished, they were about becoming understood. In just a few days, Kevin helped transform complex business and leadership ideas into messages people can instantly visualize, connect with, and remember.

Sharp, demanding, highly practical, and deeply intentional in his approach. More importantly, a genuinely good human being. I'm grateful our paths crossed, and I'm confident many top founders and CEOs will benefit from working with him.

06 What Waiting Will Cost You

Every Round You Raise Untrained, You Raise It Smaller.

The round you raise this year sets the valuation for the round you raise next year. The terms of this round set the dilution on the next one. The conviction in the room this quarter sets the speed of the term sheet next quarter.

A founder who closes a round with the deck doing the work raises a smaller round, at a tighter price, with more dilution, than a founder whose voice matches the substance.

Compound that over three rounds and the founder ends up with materially less of the company they built.

The cost is not on any cap table line. It is in the difference between the cap table you have and the cap table you would have had.

There is also the harder fact. The work is private. Capacity is limited. Kevin advises a small number of leaders at any time. The next round is on the runway either way.

Build the voice. Raise the round at the price the product earns.

The deck cost you a weekend with a tool. The voice will cost less than one tightened term in the next round.

Close the gap before the round closes you.

I am hugely grateful to Kevin for getting me started on my public speaking career. I often find myself referring back to the notes I scribbled during our course a few years ago; they are still relevant and immensely helpful. Thank you, Kevin, for teaching me fundamentals. Now I'm in that never-ending, always-improving (and always exhausting!) phase of “practice, practice, practice”.

I asked ChatGPT who the best public-speaking coach is. The one who actually gets results. It recommended Kevin Abdulrahman.

So I did my homework. And the deeper I looked, the more obvious it became: the AI was right. Kevin is the real deal.

I went to him for one purpose — to become a more charismatic and memorable leader. Three sessions in, I realised I got far more than what I came for.

Kevin doesn't just fix the “problem” you think you have. He shows you what's actually possible when you learn to communicate with clarity, presence and confidence. And the shift is shockingly fast.

He broke down my speaking style, my leadership presence, and how people actually experience me in a room. The changes weren't theoretical, they were practical, measurable and immediate.

I didn't just learn how to speak better. I learned how to command attention. How to lead with intention. How to communicate in a way people remember. It opened my eyes to a level of leadership I didn't realise I could reach.

Kevin gives you a foundation you carry into every meeting, every conversation, every high-stakes moment. It's not “one session”. It's not “information”. It's a transformation in how you show up as a leader.

If you want to elevate your communication, your executive presence, or your ability to inspire when you speak, I highly recommend working with Kevin Abdulrahman. In fact, I'm backing my own words. I'm investing in 10 sessions with him. I'll share the results as the journey continues.

08 About the Work

Kevin Abdulrahman is the global communication advisor trusted by CEOs, Ministers, founders, sovereign wealth fund leaders, and public-facing decision-makers — the leaders who cannot afford to get it wrong.

The work is private. One founder at a time. Not a course. Not a programme. Not a group. Not a webinar. Not a downloadable framework. One founder. One year. One voice rebuilt from the inside.

It draws from Kevin's Executive Communication Authority series — five books on how authority is built, projected, and protected when the stakes are sovereign-level:

  • When Your Words Carry Consequences
  • Command The Room
  • The Authority Gap
  • Clarity Under Pressure
  • The Lasting Word

But the books are not the work. The work happens in the room between you and Kevin. The books are what you read after, to recognise what you have already become.

Be the leader the room listens to.
