The Numbers Follow the Behaviour
Sales leaders often manage the numbers when the numbers are only the result. What actually moves them is the behaviour upstream: the quality of conversations, the trust built, the discipline in following through. Chase the figure directly and you get short-term pressure; fix the behaviour and the figure follows.
A team taught to focus on doing the right things well, rather than staring at the target, tends to hit the target more reliably. The obsession with the scoreboard can distract from the play that determines it.
Kevin puts the emphasis on the behaviour that produces results, because it is both more useful and more durable than another push on quota. A room that leaves clearer on what actually drives the numbers performs better than one merely reminded of them.
